We went on a weekend camping trip to the Katazoe Beach Campground (http://katazoe.ac) at Katazoegahama Beach along the Seto Island Sea. The drive is about 1-1.5 hrs from base, so a day trip to the beach is also possible. The campground has cottages, tent sites with power, a wood burning stove, counter and sink (Individual site, Y$5140), and 'free' sites (Y$3600) where only the camping space is provided (no table/grill/fire pit available). Share cooking/cleaning areas are available. Dogs are allowed most of the year except during the busy season (July and August). Table sets and BBQ grills are available to rent at Y$ 1020 each. The showers are coin operated (Y$100/2 min). Please check their website for updated rental fees. Several sites have a ocean view!

The beach is located in a cove, providing a calm area for swimming and water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. There are palm trees everywhere, giving the beach a tropical feeling. The water is crystal clear but sand is pretty coarse in some areas, so I would suggest wearing shoes and checking your dog's paws for cuts.

On the way back from the beach we stopped at Power Beach, a small ocean front diner. It is located next to a tunnel and it can be found on Google maps. They have small bites and interesting ice cream combinations. The view is breathtaking and the place is dog-friendly!!

After getting an energy boost from ice cream, we headed to Mt. Dake for a short hike. BEWARE - The mountain road is very narrow and winding. You can choose to drive all the way up to the overlook but the drive was stressful to me, so we decided to hike. We parked at the Tori gate where the trail starts. It is only a 35-45 min hike one way (~3 km round trip). There is a viewing deck with gorgeous views over the island and there are hand-gliding platforms at the summit. The kanji sign says 'mountain summit' or something similar. Follow those signs and you will get there easily!

I hope this post was informative and that it inspires you to explore with your four-legged friends. Happy trails with tails!
