I don't know about you, but I miss the warmth of the Southeast US. As it gets warmer around here, we are starting to explore dog-friendly places. Our first day trip was to Miyajima Island. It is about a 40 minute drive from Iwakuni and another 10 minutes on the ferry. Prices are listed below.
FYI: The island is full of very friendly deer, so if you are taking your dog(s) just beware. The deer do not like when dogs get close to them!! We found this out the hard way! Oops!!
From the dock we walked to the O-torii gate (10 min or so), one of the World Heritage sites on Miyajima (photo above), and from there we headed to the Daisho-in path to Mount Misen. This is considered a fairly steep path, and though it is the easiest and most scenic path to the summit, it was still challenging.
The first hike sign says the path is 2.5 km, but that only takes you to the first overlook. The whole hike is about 5-5.5 km so be prepared to walk at least 10 km (6+ miles) and climb the equivalent of 148 floors (according to my phone).

There are several Buddhist halls close to the summit, where one of the monks was so happy to see our dogs, he had to go fetch his phone to take photos. I would say this place is pretty dog-friendly!

Once we finally got to the summit (535 m above sea level), the views were breathtaking! There are two other paths leading to the summit, thus you may choose to take a different path down. We cannot wait to go back!

Parking fee Y$ 1,000 (or about U$ 10.00). Ferry ride Y$ 360 round trip per person. Dogs ride for free.
