Luna and I headed for an afternoon hike in Iwakuni. Green Park (Koshojiyama) is 45 min from base. Take route 188 for 9 km and turn right at route 115. There is a sign for green park at the turn. From there we drove 11 km to the park. About half of the drive consists of small and winding roads with quick elevation changes. My ears were popping and I got slightly car sick and I was driving!! So if you get motion sickness, I would advise to take whatever helps you. For me it is ginger candies and boy was I happy I had some in the car! =)
Once you get there, there is a large parking lot and multiple trail heads. We decided to take it easy since it had rained the day before and we were hiking alone.
Beware: there are bears and snakes in the forest.

We hiked the blue trail next to the parking lot. It was only 2.7 km but it was enough for me to break into a sweat. The trail head was marked but there were few markers withing the trail and the ones I saw were in Japanese. I would recommend using an GPS tracker app (I use GPX Tracker) and downloading the map of the trails from the Iwakuni trails website (http://iwakunitrails.weebly.com).

I hope this post was informative and that you get inspired to explore with your furry friend!
