Our first Pacific paddle!! The water was cold, the current was strong, and we had a blast!

I don't know about you, but back home my dog traveled everywhere with me. After spending a day hiking in Miyajima, my family decided to return for a camping trip. We packed our car with all the water toys and camping gear and headed for the ferry. The ferry ride was Y$ 3,380 for the car and driver and another Y$360 for each passenger round-trip. The car fare depends on your vehicle size. The following website has more fare info (http://jr-miyajimaferry.co.jp/en/fare/ ). We had a short drive from the port and there are plenty of road signs along the way. Google Maps got us there without any glitches. Beware - the road is mostly narrow and two-ways!

The Tsutsumigaura campground (https://tsutsumigaura.com/english/) did not require reservations if you have your own tent (they do rent tents but dogs are not allowed on those). Camping was Y$ 500 per person per night. If you arrive after the office is closed, you can set up for the night and pay for your stay the next day. I wish I knew that before we went! There are hot showers, nice cooking/cleaning areas, and plenty of restroom facilities.

The showers are behind this building.

The weather was perfect with temperatures between 70s (21 C) and 50s (10 C) and not many people around. Luna was able to swim in the ocean and ride the SUP without disturbing other people.

We headed to downtown Miyajima for a night stroll. Most shops were closed, but the Miyajima Brewery, Starbucks, and hotel restaurants were opened. There was one stand-alone restaurant opened with outdoor sitting. We also walked around downtown before driving back home to check out dog-friendly spots. There are many take-out windows at the shops, so if you do not mind waking and eating while holding the leash, that is an option. Otherwise, the Miyajima Brewery has dog-friendly seats outside. You can also have a sit down meal at Cafe Lente. The food was great and our dog was welcomed there!

PS: The park and campground are full of deer! Please plan accordingly for your dog's safety!

I hope this post gives you an idea of what to expect when you take your furry friend to Miyajima! Happy travels!
